Lawal-Matawalle Alliance Boosts Stability

The Lawal Matawalle alliance is hailed by APC as a stabilising force in Zamfara, enhancing unity and governance ahead of the 2027 elections

The Northern APC Peace Agenda has praised the political reconciliation between Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal and former Governor Bello Matawalle, saying the alliance could stabilise governance in Zamfara and the wider north-west region ahead of the 2027 elections.

Alhaji Rabiu Ahmad, President of the Northern APC Peace Agenda, described Matawalle’s support for Lawal as a demonstration of political maturity and commitment to unity within the ruling party.

Matawalle, who now serves as Minister of State for Defence, publicly declared he would not contest the 2027 governorship election and endorsed Lawal following the governor’s defection to the APC.

“The coming together of Governor Dauda Lawal and former Governor Bello Matawalle under one political platform represents a turning point for Zamfara State,” Ahmad said.

“At a time when political divisions often undermine governance, this reconciliation sends a powerful message that unity can be prioritised over personal ambition.”

The APC group highlighted that the alliance presents opportunities to deepen governance, strengthen grassroots mobilisation, and enhance delivery of development to the people of Zamfara.

Ahmad also noted that Lawal’s defection to the APC aligns the state more closely with the federal government, potentially improving policy coordination and access to resources.

Observers say the Lawal-Matawalle alliance may set a precedent for political cooperation in a region historically defined by intense rivalries, signalling a shift towards more disciplined and collaborative governance.
