Sanwo-Olu urges investors as Lagos gains positive ranking

Lagos State government scales up digital learning by distributing smart tablets and textbooks to public school students under Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus education initiative

The Lagos State Government has intensified its digital learning drive by distributing smart devices and core textbooks to public school students, aiming to build a future-ready education system.

The initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu under the education and technology pillar of his T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda, marks a transition from pandemic-era interventions to a structured, long-term educational reform.

At the forefront of the rollout is the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, led by Commissioner Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun.

The ministry has focused on institutionalising digital learning while strengthening foundational literacy across the state.

Thousands of “Hope Digital Learning Tablets” are being distributed to public secondary school students.

These devices come preloaded with curriculum-aligned content, including interactive lessons, instructional videos, mock examinations, and life skills materials.

The tablets are powered by data-enabled SIMs and supported by the Roducate platform, ensuring uninterrupted access to quality education both in and outside the classroom.

The government continues to emphasise simplified core textbooks to reinforce comprehension and improve academic performance.

Lagos recorded an 80 per cent pass rate in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) in 2021, and the authorities expect further improvements as the programme expands.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the initiative goes beyond technology. “We are enabling access, opportunity, and a future where every child can learn, grow, and succeed,” he stated, highlighting the state’s commitment to nurturing digitally literate and academically competent students.
