ISWAP attack Borno general killed during Benisheikh raid, with reports confirming Brig.-Gen. Braimah died in a midnight assault on a military base

Suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants have reportedly killed Brig.-Gen. O. O. Security analyst Brant Philip confirmed the development in a post shared on Thursday, stating that the attack targeted a Nigerian military camp in northeast Nigeria.

He noted that heavy fire was observed within the facility during the assault, indicating the intensity of the operation carried out by the insurgents.

According to Philip, available reports suggest that the commanding officer was killed during the attack, describing him as a senior-ranking officer and highlighting the significance of the loss within the military hierarchy.

Further updates attributed to the same source indicated that Brig.-Gen. Braimah was among the highest-ranking officers killed in recent insurgent attacks in the region, drawing comparisons to a similar incident in late 2025 involving another senior officer.

Local sources also reported that the coordinated assault extended beyond Benisheikh to Pulka community in Gwoza Local Government Area.

Casualty figures remain unclear, but accounts suggest that civilians, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, security personnel and insurgents were among those killed during the clashes.

A resident of Benisheikh, identified as Malam Lawal Benesheikh, confirmed the incident in a social media post, describing the attack as a large-scale incursion by armed insurgents targeting a military formation in the area.

The incident underscores the persistent threat posed by insurgent groups in northeast Nigeria, where military and civilian populations continue to face recurring attacks despite ongoing counterinsurgency efforts.
