Why is he avoiding primaries and seeking endorsement? Daniel queries Abiodun

Gbenga Daniel demolition allegation heightens political tension in Ogun ahead of the 2026 senatorial election

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former Governor of Ogun State, on Friday in Ogun State questioned what he described as a preference for endorsement over competitive party primaries by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Otunba Daniel made the remark while reacting to a series of allegations involving attempted demolitions of his properties in Sagamu and Ijebu areas of the state.

According to Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, the actions he attributed to his political opponent were aimed at weakening his influence ahead of the forthcoming senatorial election.

He said despite previous setbacks, including a court victory over an earlier demolition incident, further attempts were allegedly made in 2025 to target his properties, including Asoludero Court.

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel insisted that the developments were politically motivated and formed part of a wider strategy to frustrate his political structure in Ogun East.

In a strongly worded remark, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel questioned why his rival (Dapo Abiodun) would avoid a party primary election, suggesting instead a reliance on what he described as “endorsement politics.”

He stated that democratic processes within political parties should be based on open competition rather than pre-arranged support.

Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel added that the alleged strategy had failed to achieve its intended objective, insisting that his political base remained intact despite repeated pressure.

There was no immediate response from the individual mentioned in the allegations as of the time of filing this report.

Political observers say the exchange reflects growing tensions within Ogun State’s political landscape as preparations intensify ahead of the next election cycle.
