Wike FCT project deadlines directive urges contractors to meet timelines as Abuja projects near completion ahead of Tinubu anniversary

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has directed contractors handling key infrastructure projects in Abuja to strictly adhere to delivery schedules, as the government prepares for the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office.

The Wike FCT project deadlines directive was issued on Wednesday during an extensive inspection tour of major construction sites across the capital, including the Jahi–Gwarinpa interchange, Airport Road to Kuje corridor, Kuje to Gwagwalada road, City Gate development, and key connecting routes in Wuse and the Central Area.

At the Jahi Interchange project being executed by CBC Global, the minister expressed optimism over the pace of work, noting that the project was nearing completion and could surpass 95 per cent progress within two weeks.

He commended the quality of construction but urged timely completion of outstanding components, particularly the bridge.

Inspecting the Airport Road to Kuje Junction project handled by Arab Contractors, Wike said the current momentum could deliver completion within weeks if sustained.

He also described progress on the Kuje to Gwagwalada road as steady and within expected timelines.

The minister highlighted the City Gate project, undertaken by Julius Berger, as a transformative development that would significantly enhance the capital’s visual identity.

He described the work as impressive and said residents would soon witness a striking change in Abuja’s landscape.

Wike stressed that all projects must align with inauguration timelines tied to the administration’s anniversary, urging contractors to maintain discipline and efficiency in delivery.

“These are projects scheduled to be inaugurated on the third anniversary of this administration. I am pleading with the company to keep to the timing,” he said.

He further disclosed that additional projects, including water treatment facilities in Bwari and Ushafa, as well as road developments in Katampe, Gishiri and Gaduwa, are also slated for commissioning within the same period.

A notable highlight is the integration of modern security infrastructure at the City Gate, where surveillance systems and artificial intelligence-based monitoring are expected to be deployed to enhance safety and urban management.

The Wike FCT project deadlines push reflects a broader infrastructure drive within the capital, with ongoing works aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving connectivity and delivering a more modern and efficient city environment.
