Phyna react to Moniepoint CEO talent remark sparks debate as the reality star condemns claims about Nigerian graduates’ skills and employment standards

Phyna has reacted sharply to comments made by Tosin Eniolorunda regarding the difficulty of hiring Nigerian talent, describing his remarks as disrespectful and misleading.

The controversy follows public statements by Eniolorunda, who said his company had struggled to fill over 500 vacant positions since 2024, claiming that many applicants did not meet global professional standards.

Phyna, whose real name is Josephina Otabor, strongly disagreed with the assessment, arguing that the comments unfairly generalised Nigerian graduates and ignored wider economic challenges affecting employment in the country.

In a passionate response shared on social media, she said the statement was insulting and defended the capability of Nigerian professionals.

“Moniepoint CEO saying he has 500 vacant post in his company but he cannot employ Nigerians because Nigerians are not smart is very disrespectful,” she said.

She further expressed confidence in her academic background, noting that she studied engineering and would readily return to corporate work if conditions in Nigeria improved.

“If Nigeria gets better, a lot of people would leave fooling and dust their certificates… I have my certificate here, I studied engineering,” she added.

The exchange has intensified ongoing conversations about unemployment, skills development, and workplace readiness in Nigeria, with many social media users weighing in on both sides of the debate.

Critics of Eniolorunda’s remarks argue that structural issues, rather than lack of intelligence, are the main barriers to employability, while others maintain that the private sector faces genuine challenges in sourcing adequately skilled candidates.

Moniepoint, the fintech company at the centre of the discussion, has grown rapidly in recent years and is widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading digital financial service providers, offering payment and banking solutions to businesses across the country.

The debate continues to trend online as more public figures and professionals add their voices to the growing conversation around talent, education, and employment in Nigeria.
