Dominion Pizza sewage violations in Lekki prompted Lagos authorities to seal the restaurant over environmental concerns

The Lagos State Government has sealed Dominion Pizza over alleged environmental violations linked to the discharge of untreated sewage into public drainage channels in Lekki, Lagos.

The enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office following complaints from a resident and subsequent investigations by environmental officials.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed on Tuesday that investigations revealed that untreated wastewater from the restaurant’s septic chamber was allegedly being discharged indiscriminately into surrounding drains and the environment due to an overfilled septic tank.

According to the state government, the alleged Dominion Pizza sewage violations created environmental nuisance, offensive odour and potential health risks for residents and members of the public within the Lekki area.

Wahab, in a statement shared on X, described the enforcement action as part of the Lagos State Government’s broader environmental sanitation campaign aimed at improving compliance with wastewater management regulations across the state.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s strict stance against environmental infractions, warning that businesses and individuals found violating sanitation laws would face sanctions and possible prosecution.

He also urged residents, business operators and property owners to adopt proper wastewater disposal practices to safeguard public health and protect the environment.

The Lagos State Government has in recent months intensified operations against environmental offenders, including illegal waste dumpers, polluters and property owners accused of breaching sanitation regulations.

Officials said the renewed crackdown forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain cleaner communities and improve environmental standards across Lagos.

Residents were further encouraged to report environmental violations through official complaint channels provided by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office.
