Adeboye security chiefs challenge urges Nigeria’s security leadership to tackle terrorism urgently as RCCG clarifies his position on national issues

Prominent evangelist and General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has called on Nigeria’s security leadership to intensify efforts against terrorism, declaring that those responsible for the nation’s security should deliver decisive results within 90 days or consider stepping aside.

In a video that circulated widely on social media, Adeboye addressed key security officials, including Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede, and other senior security figures, urging urgent action to address the country’s persistent security challenges.

“Get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign,” Adeboye said in the video, stressing the need for a stronger response to insecurity.

The cleric also rejected claims that he had remained silent on worsening insecurity because of his perceived relationship with President Bola Tinubu.

According to Adeboye, he has consistently raised concerns about the security situation through private engagements and advisory channels.

“You can only advise the Commander-in-Chief, you cannot command him, because if you command the Commander-in-Chief, you become the commander of the Commander-in-Chief, and it doesn’t make sense,” he said.

Adeboye maintained that he had done his part by communicating concerns and recommendations behind the scenes.

“What should we do? I’m talking to you as my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say to our government, move fast,” he added.

The remarks came hours after RCCG issued a statement denying allegations that Adeboye had participated in a protest against the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to the church, photographs being circulated online as evidence of a protest were actually taken during a nationwide peace walk organised by the Christian Association of Nigeria during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The church explained that the event was intended to draw attention to the killing of Christians and other Nigerians while urging authorities to strengthen the protection of lives and property.

RCCG also dismissed accusations that Adeboye has remained silent on insecurity, pointing to previous statements in which he called for decisive action against terrorists and those who finance their activities.

The church further clarified reports surrounding a planned prayer programme and rally organised by church leaders.

According to RCCG, claims that Adeboye personally cancelled a protest against insecurity and economic hardship were inaccurate.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship in Nigeria to members of the RCCG on the updated plan to have the grand finale of the Three Day Prayer Program in a centralised venue and hold a rally around the venue,” the church stated.

The church said Adeboye has consistently addressed national concerns through prayer, counsel and moral guidance rather than partisan political engagement.

It also rejected suggestions that the cleric had campaigned for any government, maintaining that he has always encouraged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in elections according to their convictions.

According to the church, repeated misinformation about its leader and activities necessitated the latest clarification.

“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!!” the statement said.

RCCG urged members of the public to verify information relating to the church and its leader through official communication channels before sharing or amplifying such claims.

The latest comments by Adeboye have reignited discussions about the role of religious leaders in national discourse and the growing public demand for stronger action against insecurity across the country.
