Police sources said the rescue was carried out at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, following sustained intelligence gathering and tactical operations that tracked the kidnappers to their hideout.
According to a source within the Force, two suspected kidnappers were killed during a fierce gun battle with police operatives, while two firearms were recovered from the gang.
The victims, including the younger sister of Adebayo Adelabu, were abducted at about 7:30 a.m. on June 3, 2026, while Mrs John-Paul was taking her children to school in Ibadan.
Investigators said persistent intelligence tracking and increasing pressure from security operatives forced the kidnappers into a confrontation that ultimately led to the successful rescue of the victims.
Police sources confirmed that Mrs John-Paul and her children were rescued alive, bringing an end to several days of uncertainty for their family and well-wishers.
The source added that security personnel have continued combing nearby communities and forested areas for fleeing members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Some of the suspects are believed to have escaped with gunshot wounds sustained during the exchange of fire.
The Adelabu Sister Kidnap Rescue operation comes days after concerns mounted over the safety of the victims following confirmation of the abduction by the family.
In a statement issued earlier through Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, the family expressed distress over the incident and appealed for calm while security agencies worked to secure the victims’ freedom.
“We are deeply distressed by this unfortunate incident but remain hopeful that the victims will be rescued safely. We appeal to the public to remain calm, avoid speculation, and support ongoing efforts with prayers,” the statement said.
Family sources said Mrs John-Paul is the youngest of five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu, who reportedly retired voluntarily from First Bank Pension Custodian in 2025 before relocating to Ibadan with her children.
The successful Adelabu Sister Kidnap Rescue is expected to provide relief to the family and residents of Oyo State, where concerns over kidnapping and violent crime have remained a significant security challenge.
