Police arrest three suspects over murder of former OGTV broadcaster, guard

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the brutal killing of former Ogun State Television broadcaster Mrs Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Mr Pelumi Adetayo, in what investigators describe as a breakthrough achieved through intelligence gathering, forensic analysis and technical tracking operations.

The arrests were announced on Thursday, June 25, 2026, by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, during a press briefing held at the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Mrs Oyesiku and Mr Adetayo were discovered dead on June 21, 2026, at the broadcaster’s residence in the Owode-Egba area of Ogun State.

A Lexus RX 330 belonging to the deceased was also reported missing from the compound, raising immediate suspicion of armed robbery and homicide.

According to the police, officers initially responded to a distress report at about 4 pm on the day of the incident after residents raised concerns over unusual activity at the residence.

On arrival, detectives reportedly found the security post compromised and the front entrance partially damaged.

Police investigations revealed a disturbing scene inside the property, where the security guard was found dead in a locked security house while Mrs Oyesiku was discovered in the living room in a pool of blood.

Ojajuni stated that forensic processing of the scene played a critical role in advancing the investigation, including the recovery of a handwritten note believed to have been left by the attackers.

He described the document as a “crucial lead” that helped investigators narrow down suspects.

“One critical piece of evidence recovered from the scene was a handwritten note,” the police commissioner said, noting that forensic analysis of the note provided significant investigative direction.

The police further disclosed that the stolen Lexus RX 330 was recovered a day after the incident through coordinated intelligence-led tracking operations.

Despite attempts to conceal the vehicle’s identity, officers were able to confirm ownership through recovered registration materials hidden inside the car.

Following sustained surveillance and intelligence work, detectives arrested the first suspect, Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, 22, at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.

Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two additional suspects, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, both of whom police say were linked to the criminal conspiracy.

In a confession cited by investigators, Philip allegedly admitted to orchestrating the attack and recruiting the other suspects. Police said he claimed the crime stemmed from grievances linked to his previous work as a security guard for the deceased.

“The suspect stated that the murder of Madam Olakitan Oyesiku was intended to ‘teach her a lesson,’” Ojajuni said.

Investigators also alleged that the attackers first overpowered the security guard before using him to gain access into the main residence, where both victims were ultimately killed before the suspects fled with the vehicle.

Several exhibits, including a broken hammer, cutlass, plank and a pen, were reportedly recovered during follow-up searches at locations connected to the suspects.

While confirming the arrests, the police commissioner stressed that investigations remain ongoing and that all suspects are entitled to due process under the law.

Ojajuni assured residents that the command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims, describing the case as one of priority and seriousness for the state security architecture.

The case has continued to draw public attention in Ogun State, with residents calling for swift prosecution and stronger measures to curb violent crime across communities.
