Tension erupted in Ilesa on Thursday as residents staged a protest following the alleged kidnapping of individuals during a reported night-time attack in the community.
The protest began after reports spread that armed men allegedly stormed parts of the town and abducted residents, sparking panic and a swift public reaction.
Protesters, who gathered in large numbers, demanded immediate intervention from security agencies and called for urgent action to secure the release of those reportedly taken.
Some participants in the protest alleged that individuals linked to politically connected groups were involved in the incident, though these claims remain unverified and have not been confirmed by any security authority.
Residents expressed frustration over what they described as increasing insecurity in the area, urging authorities to strengthen surveillance and improve rapid response mechanisms.
Chants and placards dominated the demonstration as protesters insisted that the safety of citizens must be prioritised and that those responsible should be identified and prosecuted.
Security operatives were reportedly deployed to strategic locations to maintain order and prevent escalation as tensions rose in parts of the town.
The incident has further intensified concerns over security challenges in parts of Osun State, with residents calling for sustained government attention and action.
