Rotary International District 9112 and District Governor Rtn. Layi Abidoye have announced the inaugural Evening with the District Governor (EWDG) 2026–2027, a flagship gathering designed to celebrate Rotary’s humanitarian achievements, recognise excellence and strengthen partnerships across the District.

The event is scheduled for Friday, 25 September 2026, at 4:00 p.m. prompt at the Rotary Centre, 8 Ladoke Akintola Street, G.R.A., Ikeja, Lagos, bringing together Rotarians, Rotaractors, Rotary Community Corps members, Rotary alumni, corporate partners, friends of Rotary and members of the wider public.

The first edition of the EWDG is being organised under the inspirational leadership of District Governor Rtn. Layi Abidoye as part of the Create Lasting Impact Rotary Year, with a focus on promoting service, collaboration and sustainable community development.

Organisers said the evening will provide an opportunity for members of the Rotary family to connect, celebrate achievements and mobilise stronger support for humanitarian projects across District 9112.

The event will also feature an advance celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, highlighting national unity, cultural pride and Rotary’s commitment to nation-building through impactful humanitarian service.

Guests attending the gathering can expect a blend of fellowship, recognition and entertainment, including the celebration of Rotary’s humanitarian achievements across the District, the First Quarter District Awards and Recognition, cultural performances, music, dancing, dinner and networking opportunities with business and community leaders.

The programme will also include interactions with the District Governor and District Leadership, public image and media exposure opportunities, and special recognitions for outstanding Rotary clubs, members, partners and sponsors.

Attendees are encouraged to embrace the national theme of the celebration through the official dress code: Nigeria Districts Ankara, Taipei Ankara, or any Green and White attire.

As part of the Rotary year’s performance drive, District 9112 will also recognise clubs that demonstrate outstanding achievements through the District Club Performance Challenge.

The challenge will measure club performance in key areas, including membership growth and retention, new club development, public image and communications, support for The Rotary Foundation, PolioPlus giving, Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) contributions, Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) recognition, Paul Harris Society (PHS) participation, RI first semi-annual dues compliance, District dues and DEWEF compliance.

Other areas of recognition will include Rotary Action Plan implementation, Rotary Areas of Focus projects, club administration, reporting, innovative community impact and the timely updating of club goals, achievements and progress on the Rotary International dashboard.

District 9112 said the objective is to encourage every club to excel and work towards achieving the RI Citation, a recognised mark of Rotary club performance and commitment.

The evening will also showcase projects aligned with Rotary’s global Areas of Focus, including peacebuilding and conflict prevention, disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, community economic development, environmental protection and mental health awareness and support within District 9112.

Speaking on the importance of partnerships, organisers invited Rotary clubs, Joint Presidential Groups, individual Rotarians, corporate organisations, friends of Rotary and well-wishers to support the event through sponsorship and collaboration.
