Glo ushers in new digital era With AI assistant Gloria

Globacom Limited unveiled its artificial intelligence-powered virtual assistant, Gloria, in Lagos on August 10, 2026, introducing the six-language digital support tool on the Glo Café platform as the Nigerian telecommunications company prepares to mark its 23rd anniversary.

The Glo AI assistant Gloria is designed to make customer interactions faster and more convenient by helping subscribers navigate account services, access support and resolve routine service-related enquiries through an automated interface.

The launch forms part of Globacom’s broader digital transformation drive as the company places greater emphasis on technology, network investment and customer experience ahead of its anniversary on August 29.

Gloria’s ability to support six languages is among the features Globacom is highlighting as it seeks to make its digital customer service more accessible to a diverse subscriber base.

The development comes at a time when telecommunications companies globally are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence to handle routine customer enquiries, improve response times and provide round-the-clock digital support.

For Glo subscribers, the introduction of Gloria builds on the role already played by Glo Café as a self-service platform.

Globacom describes Glo Café as a unified digital channel through which customers can manage their accounts, purchase services, recharge, check usage and access other offerings.

The company has been positioning the platform as part of a wider effort to reduce friction in everyday interactions between subscribers and the network.

The latest move also reflects changing expectations among mobile users, many of whom increasingly prefer digital self-service options for routine matters rather than relying exclusively on traditional customer service channels.

Globacom’s investment push extends beyond artificial intelligence.

The company has been highlighting upgrades across its core, transmission, IP and fibre networks, alongside the deployment of additional 4G LTE infrastructure in densely populated and underserved areas.

At a recent Glo Partners’ Reward Gala in Lagos, Globacom’s Cluster Head, Lagos 2, Abdul Rasaq Ande, said the company would continue investing in next-generation technologies and network infrastructure.

“It has been 23 remarkable years of technological revolution, innovation, and service excellence,” Ande said, adding that Globacom would continue to invest heavily in next-generation technologies and upgrade its infrastructure.

That anniversary message gives the Gloria launch a broader significance.

Rather than presenting the milestone solely as a celebration of the company’s history, Globacom is using the occasion to showcase technologies it believes will shape its next phase.

The company has also expanded its “Borrow Me Credit” service, aimed at keeping subscribers connected when they have low or zero balances, while further enhancements to Glo Café are planned to provide a more seamless digital experience.

Globacom’s recent engagement with its business partners has similarly focused on innovation and customer value.

At the July gala, 115 dealers who recorded strong performances between January and June 2026 received cash rewards and other prizes, reinforcing the company’s emphasis on its wider business ecosystem.

The event also brought a lighter human touch to the company’s anniversary preparations, with a “Rep Your Region” best-dressed competition celebrating Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

Alamin Muhammed Suleiman of Benjee Communication and Anthonia Agbasi of Chicadef Global Limited each won ₦500,000 in the competition.

Globacom began commercial operations in Nigeria in August 2003 and has since built its brand around technological innovation and efforts to broaden access to telecommunications services.

The company’s anniversary comes as Nigeria’s telecoms industry continues to evolve rapidly, with operators under pressure to improve network quality, expand digital services and respond to subscribers whose expectations are increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and always-on digital platforms.

Against that backdrop, Gloria represents more than another feature within Glo Café.

The launch signals a bold attempt by Globacom to bring AI deeper into everyday customer interactions while continuing to invest in the infrastructure supporting those services.

As Globacom approaches its 23rd year, the company is therefore looking beyond the traditional anniversary celebration.

With Gloria, network upgrades and an expanding digital ecosystem, Glo is presenting technology and customer experience as central to the next chapter of its Nigerian journey.
