The Brazilian forward is reportedly set to sign until 2028, with an option for a further year, as Hansi Flick strengthens Barcelona’s attack

Barcelona have reportedly reached an agreement with Arsenal to sign Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus for a package worth more than €10 million, as manager Hansi Flick moves to strengthen his attacking options.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced the development on Sunday, August 30, 2026, saying the 29-year-old had agreed personal terms with the Catalan club and was preparing to travel to Spain after receiving Arsenal’s authorisation.

Romano said the agreement would keep Jesus at Barcelona until June 2028, with an option to extend the contract for another year.

“Gabriel Jesus and Barcelona, deal until June 2028 plus option and package over €10m to Arsenal,” Romano wrote on X.

“The agreement also includes an option to extend for extra year, until 2029.”

Romano added that Jesus had quickly accepted the opportunity to move to the Spanish giants.

“Gabriel immediately said yes to Barcelona, seen by the Brazilian as a dream opportunity,” he said.

“Arsenal authorised his travel on Monday.”

The proposed move represents a significant late-window addition for Barcelona as Flick looks to reinforce his forward line following the departure of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

Torres moved to Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in August, leaving Barcelona with a need for greater depth in the central attacking position.

Barcelona had previously explored a deal for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez, but the Spanish club remained reluctant to sanction the Argentine’s departure.

The failure to secure Álvarez appears to have accelerated Barcelona’s pursuit of Jesus, whose experience in European football makes him an attractive alternative.

Jesus arrives with a substantial Premier League pedigree.

The Brazilian spent five seasons at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola after joining the club from Palmeiras in 2017.

He won multiple major domestic honours during his time in England and developed into one of the Premier League’s most technically gifted forwards.

He subsequently moved to Arsenal in 2022, where he became an important attacking figure under Mikel Arteta.

His versatility could be particularly valuable to Flick. Jesus is capable of operating as a central striker but has also played from wider attacking positions, giving Barcelona additional flexibility in how they construct their forward line.

The Brazilian’s movement, pressing ability and experience at the highest level could also fit Flick’s demand for an energetic attacking unit.

The transfer would bring an experienced international forward into a Barcelona squad that has continued to blend established stars with emerging young players.

For Arsenal, meanwhile, the reported agreement would bring an end to Jesus’ spell in north London after four seasons.

His Arsenal career has been affected at times by injuries, although he has produced important performances when available and contributed to the club’s attacking development under Arteta.

The reported €10 million-plus package is relatively modest for a player with Jesus’ experience, but the structure of the agreement, including potential add-ons and the contract options, could increase the overall value.

Barcelona’s interest also reflects the club’s need to find practical solutions in a transfer market where elite centre-forwards command significant fees.

With Álvarez unavailable and the departures of Lewandowski and Torres reshaping the forward line, Jesus offers Flick a proven alternative without requiring Barcelona to make an exceptionally large investment.

If completed as reported, the move could give Barcelona a fresh attacking option for the new campaign while offering Jesus the opportunity to revive his career at one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
