The Enugu State Police Command has identified 27-year-old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu as the woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, at his residence in Enugu.
The command said Ugwu was a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, and had recently completed her National Youth Service Corps programme.

The police disclosed her identity in an update issued on Friday as investigators continued work on the circumstances surrounding her death.
“Investigation has established the identity of the deceased as Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu, aged 27, a graduate of Medical Laboratory Science from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), who recently concluded her NYSC,” the command said.
The police also confirmed that Ugwu’s family had been identified and interviewed as part of the investigation.
Her parents and siblings were reportedly interviewed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, alongside the suspect.
“The CP has reassured the family that justice will be served in the case,” the command said.
Emmanuel, 30, was arrested following the alleged killing at his residence in the Olympic Layout area of Enugu.
According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the incident followed an argument between the couple over allegations concerning the source of an HIV infection.
The command alleged that Emmanuel struck Ugwu on the head with a pestle, resulting in her death.
Police further alleged that the suspect wrapped her remains in nylon and locked them inside the toilet of his apartment.
The body was reportedly discovered after neighbours became concerned about an offensive odour coming from the apartment.
The neighbours allegedly forced the door open and apprehended the suspect before police officers arrived.
Ugwu’s remains were subsequently evacuated to a mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The suspect was reportedly rescued from an angry mob and taken into police custody by officers attached to the Awkunanaw Division.
The latest police update did not disclose the outcome of the autopsy or indicate whether formal charges had been filed against Emmanuel.
The command urged members of the public, particularly women, to exercise caution when meeting or spending time with people they know.
“Ladies, especially, let someone you trust know your whereabouts,” the police advised.
The command also warned against assuming that familiarity automatically guarantees safety.
“Do not assume that because you know someone, you are necessarily safe with them. People can change,” the statement added.
The police urged members of the public to remain vigilant, trust their instincts and take precautions when they feel unsafe.
