The Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA Men’s World Ranking released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following a mixed international window.
Nigeria, who were previously ranked 26th in the world and fourth in Africa, now sit sixth on the continent behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
The latest Super Eagles FIFA ranking reflects a difficult run of results during the international window. Nigeria opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo.
George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scored their first senior international goals as Nigeria recovered from conceding first to secure all three points.
However, the positive start was followed by a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau. Franculino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló scored for the hosts as Nigeria suffered a damaging defeat in their second AFCON 2027 qualifying match.
The Super Eagles then ended the international window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday, October 6. The result meant Nigeria recorded one win, one defeat and one draw during the period.
Nigeria now have 1,567.97 points in the latest FIFA ranking, down from 1,585.02 points in the previous update. Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire moved above the Super Eagles to occupy 28th and 29th positions respectively.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked nation at seventh globally, followed by Senegal in 18th, Egypt in 25th, Algeria in 28th, Côte d’Ivoire in 29th and Nigeria in 30th.
The latest ranking represents a setback for Éric Chelle’s side, who will now look to improve their results in upcoming international fixtures and regain ground in both the global and African standings.
The next FIFA Men’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on November 18, 2026.
