Dutch police interrupted a Nigerian wedding in the Netherlands in the middle of the ceremony, ordering guests to leave the hall after complaints about noise.

Videos circulating on social media show officers in high-visibility jackets at the entrance of the event venue speaking with guests, many of whom were dressed in colourful traditional Nigerian attire including gele and aso-ebi. Police vehicles with flashing lights were visible outside the hall.

The celebration, described by online users as a typical lively Nigerian wedding, reportedly drew complaints from nearby residents over the volume of music and noise from the gathering.

According to accounts shared online, officers shut down the music and directed guests to leave the premises immediately.

One Nigerian woman who attended the event later claimed in a follow-up video that the action was not solely due to noise, alleging that a Moroccan party taking place upstairs in the same building was allowed to continue.

She suggested the intervention was influenced by the fact that the wedding guests were Black. This claim has not been independently verified by Dutch authorities.

The incident has generated mixed reactions among Nigerians in the diaspora and on social media. Some found the situation amusing, while others noted that residents in European countries are often expected to adhere to strict local rules on noise levels, particularly in residential areas.

As of the time of reporting, there has been no official statement from the Dutch police confirming the details of the intervention or addressing the allegations of selective enforcement.
