President Bola Tinubu has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for securing 10,872 convictions and recovering assets worth ₦1.23 trillion in the first 34 months of his administration.
The President, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja at the opening of the eighth EFCC/National Judicial Institute (NJI) Workshop for Judges and Justices.
Tinubu said the commission had filed 14,476 cases in court and secured 10,872 convictions, representing a conviction-to-filing ratio of 75.1 per cent.
He added that the EFCC recorded 1,370 convictions from 1,889 cases filed in the first half of 2026 alone.
On asset recovery, the President disclosed that the commission recovered ₦1.233 trillion, $684.48 million, £373,905.78 and €9.34 million during the period under review.
Tinubu described the figures as evidence of the EFCC’s determination to combat financial crimes, recover illicit assets and strengthen Nigeria’s international financial standing.
He particularly praised the agency’s efforts against cryptocurrency fraud and the prosecution and deportation of 192 foreign nationals arrested for cyberterrorism and related offences.
The President called for stronger collaboration among anti-corruption agencies, the judiciary and other stakeholders, stressing the need for continuous training to tackle technology-driven financial crimes.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, who presented the performance figures, urged faster trials of corruption cases, warning that prolonged proceedings could weaken investigations and public confidence.
The three-day workshop, themed “Investigation and Prosecution of Economic and Financial Crimes in a Digital Age,” ends on October 15.
