According to reports, City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that scans showed Semenyo’s injury was less serious than initially feared after the forward was hurt during Saturday’s 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town.
Maresca said the club was relieved by the scan results and would now focus on the Ghana international’s recovery.
“In the first moment we expected an even worse injury so we were more worried,” the manager said.
“After yesterday’s scan we feel much better because it’s not as big as we expected.”
He added that Semenyo could be sidelined for approximately eight weeks, with a possible return in December.
Haaland also left the Ipswich match limping after sustaining a knock to his foot and ankle, raising concerns over his availability for the European fixture.
However, Maresca offered a more encouraging update on the Norwegian striker, saying he had felt better during his recovery and could still feature against AEK Athens.
“He can be available,” Maresca said. “We have a session now and we’ll see.”
Manchester City are also monitoring the fitness of Mateo Kovacic, Nico O’Reilly and Matheus Nunes, who experienced injury concerns during the Ipswich match.
Maresca indicated that the rest of the squad was generally in good condition, with Semenyo expected to be the only player facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
City will host AEK Athens on Tuesday, October 20, as they look to respond to their previous Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Maresca said his side would aim to secure victory with the best available players as they continue their European campaign.
