All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Gbenga Abiola, has pledged to introduce welfare programmes for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable residents of Agege if elected.
Abiola, who is seeking to represent Agege Constituency I in place of the incumbent Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, made the promise during an engagement with the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities, Agege Chapter, on Monday, November 2, 2026.

During the meeting, the candidate outlined proposed inclusive empowerment and social welfare initiatives designed to address the needs of vulnerable members of the constituency, particularly persons living with disabilities.
He said his plans included an Automated Food Bank that would provide organised food assistance, with persons with disabilities, elderly residents and other vulnerable households given priority.
According to Abiola, the initiative would help ensure that residents facing economic difficulties could access essential food support.
He also proposed establishing a walk-in superstore where qualified vulnerable residents could obtain basic food items and household necessities through an organised support arrangement.
Abiola stressed that meaningful development must include vulnerable members of society, adding that persons with disabilities should not be overlooked in governance, empowerment and community development.
He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting social protection, economic opportunities, accessibility and human dignity if elected.
Speaking on behalf of the association, its Agege Chapter Chairman, Alhaja Sekinat Abolaji, appreciated the candidate for his engagement with members and his previous empowerment efforts.
Abolaji also declared the association’s support for Abiola, commending his interest in improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.
She disclosed that the meeting brought together representatives from different ethnic groups, networks and sections of the disability community, providing an opportunity to discuss their concerns and possible solutions.
She added that the engagement highlighted the importance of listening to affected communities and developing programmes that respond to their actual needs.

Abiola’s proposed initiatives are expected to focus on food assistance and access to essential household supplies, although their implementation would depend on his election and subsequent ability to deliver on the promises.
