In its continued efforts at ensuring that Lagos State is at the forefront of digitalisation and innovation in education, the executive governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the office of the special adviser on education, Tokunbo Wahab, has commissioned yet another fully functional digital library in two of the state’s public schools.

The commissioning of the libraries and ICT Centres, which happened today, December 11, at the Jibowu High School and Onike Girls High School witnessed the heavy presence of the media.

At one of the centres, Wahab claimed the library is to help Lagos students to learn more about the 21st century technology and digital skills training.

“This is one of the over 60 public school libraries that we have renovated and upgraded to modern standard.

“The project is in line with the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Agenda of improving Education & Technology.

Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos SA on Education, stated that the library is to help students learn about the 21st century technology and digital skills training

Few months ago, the office of the special adviser on education started the Digital Skills Initiative Lagos (DSIL), a digital skills training that is meant to expose students across Lagos State to the new technology-driven world.

The DSIL programme is designed to equip them with knowledge, skills, and know-how that would enable them to thrive in the technology space in a couple of years’ time and compete in the future Job Market with digital skills.

“We have completed the first phase of the training, where over 20,000 students were taught in different technology skills; Scratch and Python, Virtualisation, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Networking, Digital Marketing, etc. The second phase is starting soon and we intend to consolidate on the efforts of Mr. Governor in making sure we empower more Youths to be self dependent. This is one of the many programmes initiated by Lagos State government to address the concerns of the Youths in the State, which was the reason for the recent peaceful protest, the #EndSARS,” the SA disclosed.

The project was facilitated by the Office of the Special Adviser on Education.
