‘Rotary Day of Service’ District 9110 holds joint project to clean Lagos

In commemoration of the Rotary Club International’s Rotary Day of Service 2022, the Rotary Clubs of Ikeja, Ikeja South, Ikeja-Alausa and Ikeja Central held a joint project for the service of humanity on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.

The project, tagged Don’t Be The First to Start Litering, was aimed at creating awareness, cleaning of the targeted primary school and its environment.

The joint project by District 9110 was held at Olusosun Primary School/Olusosun Bus stop Kudirat Abiola Way Lagos.

The symbolic event, which witnessed massive turnout and acceptability by the host community, was to commemorate the 117years of existence of Rotary International (February 23, 2022).

CMP. Gbenga Badejo, CMP. Prince Adeyemi Aseperi – Shonibare and CMP. (Dr. )Bartholomew Ufoegbunamwho are the Presidents of Rotary Club of Ikeja , Rotary Club of Ikeja South and Ikeja Alausa respectively, kick off the event by addressing the pupils of Olusosun Primary School on the assembly.

The pupils were charged to maintain proper hygiene, keep their vicinity clean always, ensure the existing projects of Rotary within the school vicinity (Water project, Toilet renovation and tree planting) are well kept and maintained.

After which the cleaning exercise started proper, where all Rotarians present were joined by the LAWMA personnel, led by Okunubi Adewale, to clear the school premises and then moved to Olusosun community to clear the drainage , sweep dirt, put them in the waste and dispose them off at the LAWMA Truck stationed at the project venue.

The high point of the project was the donation of two giant waste bins to Olusosun community by Chief of Staff to the District Governor , PAG Tonnia Taiwo, who presented the gifts on behalf of the clubs to the school management ably represented by Olaniyan Odunmorayo Lizzy, the head teacher.

Other community partners present at the event were the Olusosun CDA chairman, Jamiu, Parent Forum chairman of Olusosun Primary School, Ibrahim Adeleke, chairman of SBMC, Odebiyi Akeem and the chairman of World Health Committee, Olusosun PHC, Hon. Adeoye Hammed.

The clubs also observed all necessary COVID-19 safety protocols with the use and presentations of nose mask, hand sanitizer and hand gloves to all, while over 60 Rotarians present wore uniformed branded Rotary t-shirts.

While there was a standby ambulance to take care of any health related emergency, other partnering agencies of the Lagos State government included Lagos State Waste Management Agency LAWMA and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA was led by Adegoke M.A.
