National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, at the weekend, urged bishops in the country to condemn the increasing killings, thuggery and election violence in Imo State.

Anyanwu, who is the governorship candidate of the party, also said that “politics without morality is the cause of leadership failure” in the nation.

Speaking on the theme: ‘Occupy till I come’ at the first session of the 11th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Mbaise, held at the Holy Trinity Church, Owutu Parish, Ezinihitte Mbaise Council, the PDP chieftain regretted that most politicians do not remember that “genuine power comes from God,” as they keep indulging in dishonourable activities to acquire power, describing such societal ills as “unpardonable sin.”

Accompanied by his running mate, Dr. Jones Onyereri, owner of All Seasons Hotels, Myke Ikoku, the Director General of his campaign organisation, Ngozi Ogbu, as well as some party officials, Anyanwu tasked the bishops and other religious leaders to rise to the occasion and condemn acts of insecurity and all forms of election malpractices in the state.

He lamented the level of greed, wickedness and desperation to retain power at all cost, saying they are causes of insecurity and unwarranted killings of Imo youths.

He noted that such practices have caused underdevelopment of the country, warning against use of state funds for the November 11 governorship election in the state.

He advocated that the administration must be anchored on morality, good synergy with “God, church and men of God for wise counselling, as well as spiritual assistance to humanity.”

Reacting, both the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma, on Public Communications, Collins Ughalaa, and the Special Assistant on Research and Documentation, Ogu Nwadike, faulted Anyanwu and other PDP members for inability to condemn insecurity in the state, accusing the opposition party of sponsoring the menace. The duo alleged that senseless and barbaric killings, as well as other forms of insecurity in the state were politically contrived.
