The arrest was announced on Monday by Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, who said operatives of the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team carried out the operation following investigations into allegations of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, theft, malicious damage and administering harmful substances.
According to police findings, Govi allegedly secured employment as a chef at the residence and carefully observed the occupants’ movement, daily routine and security arrangements before the reported operation on April 23, 2026.
Investigators alleged that the suspect worked alongside two accomplices identified as Peter and Moses, who remain at large.
Police further claimed that food prepared inside the residence was laced with a suspected sedative substance to weaken both the occupants and security personnel.
After the victims reportedly became unconscious, the suspects allegedly forced entry into parts of the property, damaged CCTV installations and carted away 20 luxury wristwatches valued at about N150 million alongside other valuables.
The dramatic Abuja Burglary Chef Arrest came after operatives intercepted Govi around the Gwagwalada area of the Federal Capital Territory while he was allegedly attempting to flee to Lagos.
Police said an iPhone 17 Pro Max believed to belong to the victim, as well as a suspected chemical substance, was recovered from the suspect.
Anthony Placid said the police remain determined to dismantle organised criminal networks and ensure all fleeing accomplices are apprehended.
