Rotimi Adeoye, estranged husband of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojume, has publicly shared his account of events following dramatic scenes at the singer’s burial, as a family dispute continues to unfold in the public domain.

The controversy intensified after a YouTube broadcast on Yeye Kudi Courtroom TV aired a recorded phone conversation with a man alleged to be Adeoye, in which he spoke at length about his marriage, separation, and relationship with the couple’s children.
The disclosure came days after what was meant to be a solemn burial reportedly descended into confrontation at the graveside.
Akinnaanu and Adeoye married in 2006, first at the Surulere Magistrate Court and later in a church ceremony at ECWA Church, Mushin.
The marriage reportedly broke down around 2010 and was legally dissolved between 2017 and 2018, with custody of their children becoming a central source of disagreement.
Adeoye, believed to be based abroad and now remarried, claimed the separation followed personal disagreements, migration challenges to the United Kingdom, and financial strain.
He alleged that one of the children was taken to Nigeria without his consent and that subsequent efforts to maintain contact were unsuccessful.
He denied abandoning the children, stating that he provided financial support and paid school fees over several years, but alleged that communication channels were blocked.
He also called for DNA tests and indicated an intention to pursue legal custody, while expressing a desire for reconciliation.
During the burial events, an emotional tribute delivered by the couple’s teenage daughter went viral, in which she praised her mother and accused her father of absence from her life.
The speech drew widespread reactions online and further amplified public attention on the family dispute.
Meanwhile, a representative of Akinnaanu’s gospel music colleagues, Niyi Peter, released a video addressing tensions between the artistes and the singer’s family over burial arrangements.
He alleged that fellow artistes had made preparations for a widely attended burial in line with the late singer’s wishes, but that the plans were later rejected by the family.
Akinnaanu’s family, however, stated that they were surprised by the public announcement of burial plans and insisted that they independently organised the burial with pooled family resources.
Relatives of Adeoye also spoke publicly, alleging that attempts at reconciliation before the burial were frustrated.
