Badagry mourns the death of Akran De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, a revered monarch and custodian of culture who reigned for nearly five decades
The Badagry Kingdom has been thrown into mourning following the death of its paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry.

Born in 1936, the late monarch was a former journalist before ascending the throne on 23 April 1977, succeeding his forefathers.
Over his nearly 50-year reign, he guided Badagry with a focus on peace, unity, and community development.
As Permanent Vice-Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Aholu Menu-Toyi I’s counsel shaped traditional governance across the state.
He was widely respected as a devoted custodian of Ogu culture and a passionate advocate for the welfare of his people.
