The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said the raids were conducted between Wednesday, February 5, and Thursday, February 6, 2026, following credible intelligence on criminal activities in the area.
“Operatives carried out a strategic night operation targeting identified black spots within the Ibaka Fishing Port, resulting in the arrest of 23 male suspects, including Sampson Newstyle, Godgift Benabinte, Michael Asukwo, Prince Ene, Goodnews Asukwo, and Golden Edu,” the statement said.
Recovered exhibits included large commercial quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, chemically enhanced variants of suspected Indian hemp, illicit locally brewed drinks, and devices used for inhaling hard drugs.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ roles in criminal networks and identify other individuals connected to the drug trade in the area.
The command reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug abuse and trafficking.
DSP John assured residents that the Ibaka axis remains calm, with enhanced patrols and surveillance to prevent a resurgence of criminal activities.
The operation follows previous successes by the Akwa Ibom police, including the recovery of live ammunition and arrests linked to criminal activity along the Calabar–Itu Highway on January 23, 2026.
