The Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Elizabeth Agwu, disclosed the figure during a media briefing at the commission’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday, describing the turnout as encouraging.
Dr Elizabeth Agwu said the registration is ongoing across the 21 local government areas of the state and runs from January 5 to April 17, 2026.
The briefing, she noted, was aimed at strengthening collaboration between INEC and the media to combat misinformation, promote voter education and build public trust in the electoral process.
Dr Elizabeth Agwu emphasised the crucial role of media professionals in safeguarding democracy through balanced reporting, noting that the commission relies on stakeholders, including political parties and journalists, for the success of the exercise.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner urged residents aged 18 and above to register promptly to avoid a last minute rush as the deadline approaches.
Dr Elizabeth Agwu also expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state, describing it as the best election conducted so far in the country due to seamless real time result uploads and the effective use of technology.
Dr Elizabeth Agwu announced that Permanent Voter Cards from the recently concluded registration cycle are available for collection at local government offices across the state.
