Conference 57 backs Hamzat for Lagos governor in 2027, citing experience, loyalty and grassroots leadership strength

Conference 57, the umbrella body of local government and Local Council Development Area chairmen in Lagos State, has endorsed Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat for governor ahead of the 2027 election.

The endorsement was announced on Sunday during a strategic meeting of council chairmen held in Ikeja, where party leaders and local government officials gathered to discuss the political direction of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Lagos State.

Chairman of Conference 57, Sesan Olowa, said the decision followed consultations with President Bola Tinubu, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and leaders of the Governance Advisory Council.

Conference 57 comprises chairmen from the 20 local governments and 37 Local Council Development Areas across Lagos State.

Sesan Olowa said the council chairmen were united in their support for Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, describing the deputy governor as a capable and experienced administrator with the competence to sustain Lagos’ developmental drive.

“Our appreciation goes to President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu and GAC leaders for choosing Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat,” Sesan Olowa said.

“We are proud of this decision and convinced it will move Lagos closer to its megacity aspirations.”

Sesan Olowa added that the deputy governor had served Lagos diligently across several administrations and remained deeply involved in major policy decisions shaping the state.

Conference 57 spokesman Olasoju Adebayo also praised Hamzat’s record in public service, describing him as a seasoned administrator with extensive experience across government institutions.

Olasoju Adebayo said Hamzat laid important foundations for technological and infrastructural advancement during his tenure as commissioner.

The endorsement marks an early political boost for the deputy governor as conversations around the 2027 governorship race begin to gather momentum within the Lagos APC structure.

Responding to the endorsement, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat thanked the council and LCDA chairmen for their confidence and support.

Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat described local government officials as critical stakeholders because of their direct connection to grassroots communities across the state.

“I thank all local government and LCDA chairmen for this endorsement. They have assured me of their support for Mr President and APC candidates in 2027,” Hamzat said.

The deputy governor said the ruling party remained closely connected to the realities facing Lagos residents and understood the solutions required to address the state’s growing challenges.

Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat also stressed the importance of long-term planning as Lagos continues to experience rapid population growth and increasing pressure on infrastructure and public services.
