EFCC arrests 20 over alleged vote trading in FCT polls, recovering N13.5m, and pledges prosecution as investigations continue
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 20 suspects over alleged electoral offences during the February 21 Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, recovering a total of N17,218,700, including N13,500,000 found in a car near a polling station in Kwali Local Government Area.

In a statement posted on its official X page, the EFCC said the suspects were apprehended across multiple locations, including two in Abaji, nine in Gwagwalada, four in Kuje, and four in Kwali.
Alleged offences include vote buying, vote selling, and obstruction of electoral officers.
“The operation formed part of efforts to address electoral malpractice and ensure compliance with the law during the local government polls,” the commission stated, adding that investigations are ongoing.
“The suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”

The arrests highlight intensified efforts by Nigerian authorities to curb electoral fraud, restore public confidence in the voting process, and deter vote trading during critical local government elections.
