[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has launched the VIGISCOPE app (VGS), a cutting-edge emergency reporting and response system designed to enhance school safety in Nigeria.
The app’s unveiling was announced by Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a statement on Thursday following a two-day seminar held from 26th to 27th November 2024.

The VGS app aims to improve technical intelligence in crime resolution and ensure a swift police response to emergencies in schools.
Odutola explained its functionality, highlighting that it enables school principals, teachers, and students to connect directly with a central command via a smartphone, facilitating immediate assistance in times of danger.
“The app enhances technical intelligence in crime resolution and facilitates police access to hard-to-reach areas. It ensures effective information sharing and threat detection.
In emergencies, users can send a ‘rescue me’ message to activate a swift response from the VGS central headquarters,” Odutola said.
Key Features of the VIGISCOPE App:
- Emergency Reporting: Allows users to report incidents or request immediate assistance via smartphones.
- Internet-Enabled: Operates wherever internet service is available, enabling schools in Ogun State and beyond to utilise its features.
- Data-Driven: Supports tactical intelligence for identifying threats and accessing remote areas safely.
- Swift Response: Alerts the VGS central command, which mobilises tactical teams for prompt rescue operations.
The app’s internet functionality ensures that even schools in remote locations can benefit from its services, promoting safety and rapid intervention during emergencies.
The IGP emphasised the importance of leveraging technology to enhance security, particularly in educational institutions where safeguarding lives is a top priority.
