The development was disclosed by the suspect’s sister, who appealed for his release and described the incident as a misunderstanding.
She said her brother only reposted content from another account on X and did not fully understand the implications of the message at the time.
According to her, the teenager later realised the post could cause harm and quickly deleted it before issuing an apology on the platform.
She added that he also tagged businessman Tony Elumelu in his apology post as part of efforts to correct the situation.
The sister maintained that her brother acted out of ignorance rather than intent, stressing that he is still very young and inexperienced.
She further appealed to authorities for leniency, saying the arrest had caused distress to the family and urging that he be forgiven and released.
She described the incident as a mistake that has now been corrected, insisting that the young man does not deserve harsh punishment.
As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the arrest or the circumstances surrounding the case.
