Kano Sachet Water Price Increase announced by ATWAP as production costs soar; residents urged to maintain trust in water safety
The Kano State chapter of the Association of Table Water Producers (ATWAP) has announced an upward revision in the price of sachet water, popularly known as “pure water,” citing escalating production costs.

In a statement, the association’s Public Relations Officer, Anas Idris Hassan, said the price of a bag of sachet water, previously sold at N220, has been adjusted to a minimum of N300 across the state.
Hassan explained that the decision followed a sharp increase in the cost of essential production materials, which he estimated has risen by about two-thirds.
According to the association, the price of printing film used for packaging has climbed to N3,700, while the cost of gas and fuel has reached N1,500 per litre.
Hassan also noted that the lack of stable electricity has forced many factories to rely heavily on generators, further inflating operational expenses.
The price review was described as a last-resort measure to ensure continued access to safe drinking water for residents.
ATWAP Chairman Ahmad Bala Hudu emphasised that the adjustment is necessary to prevent the collapse of the sachet water industry in the state.
Despite the increase, Hudu warned producers against compromising on water quality.
He stressed that reverse osmosis systems and other purification processes must be properly maintained to safeguard consumers.
The chairman also noted that ATWAP is collaborating with health authorities to conduct inspections of production facilities and warned that any producer found violating regulations would face law enforcement action.
