Kiddwaya claims father played role in Nigeria’s democratic transition

Kiddwaya claims his father advised Nigeria’s shift to democracy after General Sani Abacha’s death, sparking online debate

Reality TV star and entrepreneur Kiddwaya has claimed that his family played a role in Nigeria’s return to democratic rule following the death of former military Head of State General Sani Abacha in the late 1990s.

Kiddwaya made the remarks while discussing his family’s historical connections to Nigeria’s political transition period, stating that his father was involved in advisory conversations during the country’s shift from military to civilian governance.

He claimed that during the period of political uncertainty that followed Abacha’s death, a close associate of his father, who was reportedly second in command at the time, assumed leadership and later sought counsel from him.

According to him, his father advised that Nigeria should move away from military rule and embrace a democratic system that would allow citizens to elect their leaders.

“My father told him to change the military era to a democratic system, where people can now vote,” Kiddwaya said.

His comments have since generated widespread reactions on social media, with users revisiting discussions around Nigeria’s transition to civilian rule in 1999, which marked the beginning of the current democratic era after decades of military governance.

While the claims reflect Kiddwaya’s personal account of his family history, they have added to ongoing public conversations about individuals who may have influenced key political decisions during that period.

The remarks continue to circulate online, drawing mixed reactions and renewed interest in Nigeria’s democratic evolution.
