Kogi State government temporarily closes schools following security intelligence, prioritising student and teacher safety while ensuring academic continuity

The Kogi State Government has temporarily closed schools across the state as a preventive measure, citing credible intelligence and the need to safeguard pupils, students, and teachers.

The State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, explained that the decision, issued on Tuesday, was proactive and responsible rather than reactive. “The government chose to act before avoidable incidents could occur,” he said.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed all relevant agencies to deploy necessary measures to ensure schools resume academic activities safely, minimising disruption to the state’s academic calendar.

Fanwo commended security agencies for their timely and actionable intelligence, emphasising the cooperation as evidence of the state’s robust security framework. He reassured residents that agencies are working round the clock to identify criminal hideouts and respond decisively.

“The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions remains non-negotiable. This administration will always prioritise lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” Fanwo said.
