The Lagos State Government provides funding to care homes for people with disabilities to address medical needs, supporting over 80 homes in the state.
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), has allocated funding to care homes across the state to support the medical needs of people with disabilities (PWDs).
This initiative underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to improving the lives of individuals with physical disabilities.

The event, held at the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja on Tuesday, was attended by key stakeholders, including the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, who highlighted the significance of the government’s support for the PWD community.
“We are presenting support to a few individuals and some homes that are non-profit and have registered with the Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs,” Oyetunde-Lawal stated.
She explained that more than 80 such homes are registered and known to LASODA, all of which benefit from the initiative.
The funding, which ranges from N500,000 to N2 million for each care home, is designed to assist with medical procedures and help these organisations continue to operate effectively.
Despite limited resources, the state government has prioritised this support, aiming to meet the diverse and specific needs of PWDs residing in these homes.
Beneficiaries of the funding include well-established organisations like the Festus Fajemilo Foundation, Glamour Special School, Out of School Children, Lady Atinuke, and Diamond Centre for Children.
These groups expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Lagos State Government, noting that the financial assistance will greatly enhance their ability to provide improved care and services to their residents.
Oyetunde-Lawal also urged PWD groups to continue supporting government policies, emphasising that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is committed to recognising their efforts and addressing their needs.
She reassured the groups that the state government remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where PWDs receive necessary medical assistance and support.
This initiative reflects the Lagos State Government’s broader strategy to uplift the welfare of people with disabilities, ensuring they have access to essential services and are included in the state’s development agenda.
