This success follows weeks of diligent intelligence gathering and tactical preparation by the Command’s teams.
According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer for Lagos State Command, the police received actionable intelligence about the gang’s plans two weeks prior.
Acting swiftly on this information, CP Fayoade instructed the tactical teams to closely monitor the gang’s activities. The intelligence revealed that the gang intended to strike in the Ladipo area of Lagos State.
On the day of the planned attack, the police set an ambush for the kidnappers. The gang, caught off guard, engaged the officers in a shoot-out. Despite their resistance, the kidnappers were overpowered by the police’s superior firepower. Nine suspects were neutralised, while two others escaped with gunshot injuries.
The police recovered a significant cache of weapons and equipment from the scene, including four AK-47 rifles, four locally-made semi-automatic pistols, nine AK-47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, one POS machine, and a loudspeaker.
Additionally, two operational vehicles used by the gang, a black Toyota 4Runner and a blue Lexus RX350, were confiscated. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
SP Hundeyin highlighted that the Command had been tracking this gang for the past eight months due to their involvement in numerous kidnappings of wealthy individuals in the Isolo, Okota, Ejigbo, and Ladipo areas of Lagos State. He proudly declared that the gang’s reign of terror has now come to an end.
This successful operation is part of a series of breakthroughs by the Lagos Police Command in identifying and apprehending kidnappers and armed robbers. Many of these operations were not made public to protect the identities of informants.
The police have urged medical practitioners and the public to be vigilant and report anyone with gunshot injuries to the nearest police station. They also called on Lagosians to continue providing information about suspicious activities to aid the police in maintaining public safety and security.
