Aerospace Engineering graduate Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide is rewarded after achieving a remarkable 4.97 CGPA and First-Class Honours

Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide, the overall best graduating student of Lagos State University, received a N10 million cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme on Monday, August 17, 2026, after graduating with an exceptional 4.97 CGPA in Aerospace Engineering.

Oluolamide received the award during LASU’s 29th and 30th combined convocation ceremony at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium, Epe Campus, where his outstanding academic record was recognised alongside thousands of other graduating students.

The award provides a significant reward for a university journey marked not only by academic excellence but also by research, publications and participation in extracurricular activities.

Oluolamide graduated with First-Class Honours, finishing just 0.03 points short of a perfect 5.00 CGPA. His performance earned him the overall best graduating student position for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Sunbeth Excellence Partnership Programme presented the N10 million prize as part of its effort to recognise outstanding academic performance and encourage excellence and innovation among young Nigerians.

For Oluolamide, the recognition comes after several other academic milestones during his undergraduate years.

Before the convocation, the Aerospace Engineering graduate had already been named Scholar of the Year at the AESA-LASU Dinner on June 25, an award he described as his second Scholar of the Year recognition during his undergraduate studies.

Reflecting on the achievement in a post on X, Oluolamide wrote: “Winning my 2nd Scholar of the Year title during my undergrad is the best way to close a chapter. Late nights, heavy research, and relentless focus paid off.”

His academic work also extended beyond the classroom.

In July, Oluolamide disclosed that two of his research papers had been accepted for presentation at the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ NAICE 2026 conference in Lagos, adding another dimension to an undergraduate career distinguished by research activity.

His final academic result was formally announced by LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, during a press conference ahead of the convocation.

The vice-chancellor disclosed that more than 20,000 students would graduate across the two academic sessions covered by the combined convocation, including 494 first-class graduates.

Against that broad graduating cohort, Oluolamide’s 4.97 CGPA placed him at the top of the university’s academic rankings.

The achievement has also been met with humility from the graduate himself.

In announcing his result, Oluolamide wrote: “4.97 / 5.00 CGPA. First Class Honours in Aerospace Engineering at Lagos State University. Official Senate Approval.”

He followed the announcement with a dedication of his success to God, writing: “All glory to God for His grace, wisdom, and strength every step of the way. What God cannot do does not exist!”

The N10 million prize therefore arrives at the end of an academic journey that combined an unusually high academic average with research and professional development.

For a graduate of Aerospace Engineering, a field that requires strong foundations in mathematics, engineering analysis and technical problem-solving, the result is particularly notable.

It also places Oluolamide among the young Nigerian graduates whose academic achievements could potentially feed into the country’s growing need for highly skilled professionals in engineering, science and technology.

The recognition by Sunbeth adds another important dimension to the story.

Beyond celebrating one student’s remarkable result, programmes of this kind can provide an incentive for academic excellence at a time when Nigerian universities continue to produce large numbers of graduates competing for opportunities in an increasingly demanding economy.

For Oluolamide, however, the N10 million award marks less an ending than a significant beginning.

His record in research and conference participation suggests that the achievement at LASU may become a foundation for further academic and professional work.

After years of late nights, research and sustained academic focus, the former LASU Aerospace Engineering student leaves the university with First-Class Honours, a 4.97 CGPA, multiple academic distinctions and a N10 million recognition of his performance.

It is a remarkable reward for a remarkable undergraduate record.
