‘Lifting communities’ Rotary Club commences building of classrooms in Agbara

The Rotary Club of Agbara, District 9110, has commenced the building of a block of three classrooms at the Government Primary School at Igbere Hunsa community in Agbara Ogun State.

Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the classrooms, its President, Lucky Arhere, said the humanitarian club was moved to embark on the project because of inadequate classrooms for pupils in the community.

Describing the classrooms as important to pupils in the school, he said the club had visited the institution to provide schools uniforms, but discovered that the existing classrooms were inadequate to guarantee a conducive learning atmosphere.

Arhere said when the club visited the school it discovered that over 369 pupils were squeezed into five classrooms instead of about 12 classrooms required to create a more conducive environment.

Besides, the classrooms, Arhere said work has commenced on the provision of uniforms for pupils of the primary school.

He said the Rotary Club of Agbara was not resting in its oars in the discharge of humanitarian services as it embarked on the construction of toilets at the police station in Agbara, the provision of water facilities as well as renovation of the lounge for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC); fencing of the building and renovation of the roof as well as providing for needs of students with special needs in Agbara Communities.

Arhere said the club distributed relief materials to six communities within its jurisdiction. Also speaking at the foundation laying ceremony, Governor of Rotary District 9110, Bola Oyebade, described the club’s gesture as part of its mandate to lift communities with inadequate infrastructure including school classrooms, borehole and school uniforms.

Besides, addressing inadequate school infrastructure, he said the club has embarked on many health projects in Ogun and Lagos States, including facilitating Prostrate Cancer Centre at Olabisi Onobanjo University Teaching Hospital. He said that the club is interested in men’s health because of its overall effects on society.

Besides, he said the club facilitated eye surgery for over 100 persons in Ota, Ogun State, in addition to over 200 others who underwent surgery for cataract in Sango / Ota axis as well as over 1,000 persons who underwent prostate cancer screening for free in Ogun and Lagos States. He said the club also organized cervical cancer vaccination for over 1,000 women last year.
