The Commission announced the decision, classifying the track as “Not To Be Broadcast” (NTBB), citing its “objectionable nature” as a violation of Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
In a statement released by the NBC, the regulatory body confirmed that the song, which has been gaining significant traction on social media platforms, does not meet the required standards for broadcast in Nigeria.
“The National Broadcasting Commission has identified the song ‘Tell Your Papa’ by Eedris Abdulkareem, currently trending on social media, as content deemed inappropriate for broadcast due to its objectionable nature,” the NBC stated.
The statement further elaborated on the Commission’s directive to media houses: “It is therefore classified as Not To Be Broadcast (NTBB), as it violates Section 3.1.8 of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
The Commission requests that your station exercise discretion and refrain from airing this song to maintain responsible broadcasting standards. Your cooperation and commitment to upholding these standards is greatly appreciated. Thank you.”
While acknowledging the song’s popularity on social media, the NBC maintained its stance on upholding broadcasting standards within the nation.
