Niger Police deploy officers across the state for Yuletide security, ban fireworks, and urge residents to celebrate safely during Christmas and New Year

The Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, Adamu Elleman, has ordered the deployment of police personnel and operational assets across the state to guarantee a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration, while reaffirming a ban on fireworks.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun.

Elleman stated that the deployment would cover “places of worship, recreation centres, amusement parks, motor parks and highways within the State” to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the festive period.

Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers were directed to strictly follow the operational orders for the season, emphasising intelligence-led and high-visibility policing.

The police chief noted that these measures would be supported by ongoing joint show-of-force operations, township patrols under Operation Flush, and constant raids of identified black spots.

“These are proactive measures emplaced for crime prevention, and quick response for intervention in case of any incident,” he said.

Elleman warned residents to celebrate responsibly, specifically advising against the use of fireworks to prevent fire incidents and destruction of property.

He also called on citizens to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information to enhance public safety.

The Commissioner assured Nigerlites of the command’s commitment to “provision of security, maintenance of law and order, and protection of lives and property,” extending goodwill messages to residents.

“The CP, on behalf of officers and men of the Police Command, wishes all Nigerlites, residents and Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year,” the statement added.
