Nigeria and Belgium plan to strengthen economic ties to boost food security and agricultural productivity, says Finance Minister Wale Edun
[dropcap]N[/dropcap]igeria and Belgium are set to strengthen their economic partnership to enhance food security and agricultural productivity, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, announced on Tuesday.

This development was confirmed in a statement signed and released in Abuja by the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Mr Mohammed Manga.
The statement detailed a key meeting between Edun and the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Pieter Leenknegt, where both parties discussed ways to deepen economic cooperation, particularly in the agriculture sector.
During the meeting, Edun highlighted Nigeria’s improving economic conditions, including declining inflation, price stability, and increased savings in the federation account.
He also underscored the government’s continued support for farmers through sustainable policies aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring long-term food security.
The Belgian ambassador expressed his country’s strong interest in expanding economic relations with Nigeria for mutual benefit.
“This meeting marks a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Belgium. The two countries will continue to explore opportunities for cooperation,” Leenknegt stated.

Edun reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to implementing key macroeconomic reforms designed to drive growth and stability.
