At 1:45 pm, NISO sent a total of 60MW to all 11 DisCos, but the distribution heavily favoured Ibadan DisCo with 50MW, while Abuja, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola DisCos recorded 0MW. Benin DisCo received 10MW.
Electricity generation also plummeted, dropping to 20.40MW at 1:00 pm from 3,996.93MW recorded at noon, reflecting a dramatic collapse of the national grid.
The outage affected households, businesses, and critical infrastructure nationwide, raising concerns over the fragility of Nigeria’s power system despite recent restoration efforts.
Analysts warn that structural weaknesses, aging infrastructure, and poor maintenance remain key factors undermining grid stability.
