Nigerian Navy Kirikiri fire outbreak Lagos contained after quick response prevented escalation and safeguarded lives at correctional quarters
The Nigerian Navy has successfully contained a late-night fire outbreak at the Nigerian Correctional Service Quarters in Kirikiri, Apapa, Lagos State, preventing what officials described as a potentially devastating spread of the blaze.

Nigerian Navy Responds to Kirikiri Fire Outbreak in Lagos incident occurred at about 11:00 p.m., when flames were reported in a residential building within the quarters, according to a statement by Navy spokesperson Captain Abiodun Folorunsho.
Preliminary findings suggested that the fire may have been triggered by an explosion involving a gas cylinder, which rapidly escalated and spread to a nearby building.
Personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship WEY and the Naval Ordnance Depot were swiftly mobilised, deploying two fire trucks to the scene in a coordinated emergency response.
Their prompt intervention ensured the fire was contained before the arrival of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, limiting further destruction within the area.
Although two buildings were affected and property was lost, no casualties were recorded as of the time of reporting, a development described as a major relief.
The Nigerian Navy commended the professionalism and quick action of its personnel, noting that their response prevented a wider disaster in the densely populated facility.
Authorities also emphasised the importance of fire safety awareness and adherence to preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in residential quarters.
