Nigerian stars sweep MIPAD 2025 Awards in Lagos, celebrating excellence in entertainment, media, and global influence

Nigerian entertainers took centre stage at the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) 2025 Awards and Dinner, sweeping multiple honours during the ceremony held on Sunday night at The Library, Lagos.

The event celebrated African leadership, creativity, excellence, and global impact.

The awards night, part of the Lagos Diaspora Experience 2025, brought together influential figures from entertainment, media, business, governance, culture, and innovation, highlighting Lagos’ growing prominence as a global hub for African excellence and diaspora engagement.

Ahead of the ceremony, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was formally presented with the MIPAD Governor of the Year 2025 Award during a courtesy visit by the MIPAD delegation to Lagos House, Marina, on Wednesday, 18 December 2025.

The evening recognised outstanding achievements across entertainment and media.

Notable winners included Ebuka Obi-Uchendu as Media Personality of the Year, Bovi Ugboma as Comedian of the Year, Juliet Ibrahim as Actor of the Year (Female), and D’banj as Music Platform of the Year.

Other honourees included Banky Wellington and Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Power Couple of the Year, Bolanle Austen Peters for Theatre Festival of the Year, Kelechi Amadi Obi as Photographer of the Year, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as Author of the Year, Funke Akindele for Blockbuster Movie of the Year (Everybody Loves Jenifa), Omoni Oboli for Movie of the Year (Love in Every Word 1 & 2), and Wale Ojo as Filmmaker of the Year.

Organisers said the awards were designed to celebrate and amplify African voices, showcasing achievements that inspire continental and global communities.

The MIPAD ceremony marked the grand finale of a week-long celebration of African art, culture, innovation, and international connectivity.
