Nigeria’s progress hinges on domesticating decisions, says Otunba Daniel at NIMechE lecture (Video)

In an address at the 2023 Mechanical Engineering Distinguished Lecture organised by the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Otunba Gbenga Daniel emphasised that Nigeria’s progress is intrinsically tied to the localization of decision-making processes.

The distinguished lecturer, who served as a special guest at the event, conveyed this critical perspective at the Radisson Blu Hotel in GRA, Ikeja, Lagos.

Addressing a gathering of professional mechanical engineers, the senator representing Ogun East District at the national assembly, who is also an engineer by profession, tackled the pivotal role of engineering in fostering development and creating substantial employment opportunities in Nigeria.

The lecture, titled “Engineering, Panacea For Development & Massive Employment Generation In Nigeria,” delved into the significance of prioritizing engineering innovations for societal advancement.

The event, an annual affair for professional mechanical engineers in Nigeria, drew attention to the imperative of placing engineering at the forefront of national development strategies.

Senator Daniel stressed that for Nigeria to attain meaningful progress, a substantial portion, close to 95%, of decisions must be localised.

The national chairman of NIMechE, Engr. (Dr.) Funmilade Akingbagbohun, also echoed the sentiment that engineering innovations serve as the cornerstone for development in any sane society.

The event not only provided a platform for knowledge sharing but also underscored the critical role of engineering professionals in shaping the country’s future.

The distinguished gathering included notable figures such as Sen. Engr. Patrick C. Ndubueze, who held the position of the special guest of honour, and Engr. Tasiu Gidari-Wudil, the president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, who served as the chairman of the occasion.

“Except we patronise ourselves, we’re are just wasting time,” he disclosed.
