Over 750 Nigerian smallholder farmers have benefited from a climate-smart initiative by PricePally and GSMA Innovation Fund, improving post-harvest handling, storage, and market access

More than 750 smallholder farmers across Nigeria have benefitted from a climate-smart agricultural support initiative implemented by PricePally in partnership with the GSMA Innovation Fund, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

The initiative is designed to make farming more predictable, profitable, and resilient to climate change, helping farmers tackle long-standing challenges like post-harvest losses, limited market access, and financial exclusion.

Smallholder farmers—who produce up to 98% of Nigeria’s food—often lose up to 45% of their perishable produce such as tomatoes and vegetables due to inadequate storage, poor logistics, and lack of finance.

Through this initiative, beneficiaries received:

  • Training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and climate-smart techniques
  • Digital onboarding for traceable crop production and demand forecasting
  • Access to zero-collateral loans through fintech partner Trade Lenda
  • Solar-powered cold storage facilities from Ecotutu, plus cooling packs and gel ice for product freshness during delivery

The programme also created employment opportunities for women and young people as:

  • Sorters and quality control assessors
  • Farm-to-market liaisons
  • Last-mile delivery agents

Benjamin Ogunbola, Project Manager at PricePally, said:

“Post-harvest losses are down by almost half, and the PricePally network has given smallholders confidence that farming is not just survival but a sustainable business.”

Echoing his sentiments, Luther Lawoyin, CEO of PricePally, noted:

“The integration of technology, data, and partnerships has created real resilience for smallholders and the larger value chain. This is the future of agriculture—where farmers thrive, youth are attracted, and food reaches consumers more reliably and affordably.”

PricePally is a food systems platform that uses technology to connect farmers directly with consumers and businesses through efficient aggregation, logistics, and structured market access.
