The reaction came through Gboyega Akosile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, who dismissed the publication as “pure falsehood” and an intentional attempt to mislead the public.
Akosile stated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, mentally stable, and fully engaged in his duties as the leader of Lagos State.
He stressed that there was no pressure from any authority or institution for the governor to step down, adding that the claims circulating online were entirely untrue.
The denial followed a report attributed to Sahara Reporters alleging that the governor had been asked to resign over health concerns, with suggestions that the deputy governor was being positioned to take over.
Akosile described the story as part of a recurring pattern of disinformation, warning that such narratives could undermine public trust and create unnecessary tension.
He further clarified that Governor Sanwo-Olu recently held a routine and cordial meeting with his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, during which normal political discussions were conducted, with no indication of any health or leadership crisis.
The governor’s office emphasised that it usually avoids responding to false reports but considered it necessary in this case to reassure residents of Lagos State.
It urged the public to disregard the report entirely and cautioned against the spread of unverified information capable of destabilising confidence in government leadership.
