Following multiple meetings held, the Lagos State Ministry took decisive action on the 21st of December, 2023, by engaging with property owners along the drainage channel of System 1 midstream (from Odo Iyalaro to Ojota to Ogudu). Despite numerous notices issued to cease construction, these property owners persisted in building on the crucial drainage infrastructure.
Today, on the 15th of April, 2024, the Monitoring Enforcement and Compliance Department of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment (@LasgMOE) commenced the removal process of these illegal structures. This move aims to restore the integrity of the drainage system, allowing for the unimpeded flow of rainwater and mitigating the risk of flooding in the affected communities.
The action underscores the commitment of the Lagos State Government to safeguarding its citizens and ensuring flood-free environments across the state. By taking a stance of zero tolerance towards illegal construction on drainage channels, the government demonstrates its dedication to maintaining a cleaner and safer Lagos for all residents.
