Bayo Onanuga defends Tinubu’s rewards for Super Falcons after their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations win, calling it a well-deserved celebration of excellence
Tinubu rewards Super Falcons has sparked debate following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s generous recognition of Nigeria’s women’s football team after their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations win.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga came to the defense of the cash prizes and national honors awarded to the Super Falcons.
Onanuga shared a statement on X, contrasting the government’s reward with the ₦150 million grand prize given by the Big Brother Naija reality show, urging Nigerians to appreciate the gesture.
President Tinubu has rewarded excellence, creativity, hard work, soccer artistry, and the undying Nigerian spirit.
At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, each player and coach was conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) honor. Additionally, the players received $100,000 each, coaches $50,000 each, and all were promised three-bedroom apartments in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

While the rewards drew mixed reactions on social media, Onanuga’s defense emphasizes that this celebration marks a proud moment in Nigeria’s sporting history.
